Survival as a Learned Profession
Article is republished from the July 2008 issue of PE
I am somewhat baffled by the ongoing debate over the proposed requirement to increase the threshold for PE licensure from a Bachelor of Science in Engineering degree to a B.S. plus 30 additional credit hours—the rough equivalent of a master’s degree in engineering.

2008 SCSPE Engineer of the Year
SCSPE bestows its greatest honor to one Engineer each year.  This Engineer has to have been active in the society, the community, and the engineering profession.  Dr. Joe Gibbons has gone above and beyond the call of duty in every one of these categories; doing everything he can to excel his profession and his community.

2008 SCSPE Young Engineer of the Year
The South Carolina Society of Professional Engineers selected Ms. Suzanne Aultman as the 2008 Young Engineer of the Year.  This award is given to an engineer who in their young career has shown exemplary service in the engineering profession and in their community.

arrowVolunteer Engineer Corps

The VEC work is community service. It is intended to focus on "unfunded mandates" that currently exist within the system and to provide proactive professional support to the operations of the emergency management process.
Our Volunteer Engineers participate in all four Stages of the Emergency Management Cycle: Planning, Response, Recovery, Mitigation.

The VEC unit is structured to be self contained; that is, to be able to support itself administratively and organizationally. OEM's are typically understaffed and need support of volunteers; not the burden that can come of sponsoring such a program.

To find out more about the VEC click here to review the Standard Operating Guidelines.

If you are interested in becoming a volunteer contact Pat Jenkins by email at jenkinsrus@bellsouth.net or call (864) 297-8600.
